“Fall Fair”
By: Ansley Abney

It is finally fall,
and I can feel it in the air.
One place you have to visit
is the Perry National Fair.

They have lots of great food
and fun games to play.
They also have rides and
entertainment all day.

Try and pop a balloon
to win a great big prize.
You’ll see the look of joy
overflow in children’s eyes.

Be sure to pick up a candied apple.
They are so good and so sweet.
Buy some for your family and friends.
It would be such a delightful treat !

When it is to time leave & go home,
don’t you shed a single tear.
Wave goodbye to the National Fair,
because you’ll see them next year .

“The Tall Prognosticator”
By: Sierra Arnold

Do you see things differently
Oh majestic, tall giraffe?
Do you see what is ahead?
Can you tell what is in store for me?

I fret about the future.
The possibility of tough days ahead
Frightens me.

But surely you don’t have such worries.
You can see all.
No clouds fog your vision.
Am I wrong?

Do you really want my advice
Benighted child?
Cease such distress over the future.

I have looked only ahead.
I have missed my son’s first steps.

Be better than I.
Turn your attention.
Focus on the present and there will be
No regret in the Future.

“True Friends”
By: Abigail Kirkland

Friendships are something that many take for granted.
It causes much happiness but can sometimes be hard to manage.
Real friendships try hard to push passed it,
But some fall apart out of habit.

Friendships are formed from silly little things,
From mutual friends to borrowing a ring.
Once they’re there, they will never completely go away.
They are always in your heart to stay.

Friends comfort you when your heart gets broken,
In the middle of the night when you are suddenly woken,
By a goodbye text that brings you down,
But they are there to turn your frown back around.

Friends can make you laugh on your worst days
And will punch people who talk about you and put them in a haze
They are there for you no matter what
And if it’s bad enough, they’ll bring you a donut.

Friendships are very important to have in your life,
Even if sometimes they are as annoying as lice.
But you know you love them deep down in your heart;
They are your true friends and you can never be pulled apart.

“What A Day”
By: Jacob Johnson
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Life is one crazy thing.
You could be watching TV when you hear a ring.
Turns out, it’s only your wife giving you call.
She’s to be at work; this makes no sense at all.

“Baby, come to the hospital right now.”
She hangs up immediately after, woah.
You went from doing nothing today
To speeding down the freeway.

You make it just in time
To see the doctor through the glass looking like a mime.
You walk in to find out your son has unexpectedly passed away.
Wow, what a day.

“A Strange World, Yes?”
By: Hansen Huckaby

A Strange young fellow hopped around shouting, “Happy Blasday!”

Seven Strange women were cooking salmon on the asphalt road on
The main strip of downtown Mitopolis, a compact city crowded with strange people.
Red Christmas lights were splayed across the sidewalk and street.
And ten Strange children made snow angels with wet concrete.
Nine buildings were on fire, yet no one cared.
Grass then began to reach out and grasp my hands.
Even the trees were Strange; they began to grow hair.

Whales began to fly in the air as it started to rain wine.
Only I knew this was Strange, the sky turned yellow and black.
Road cracked under my feet and the other side of Earth was the sky.
Loud humming noises and beeps screamed in my ears.
Daringly, I closed my eyes and it went quiet.

Yes it was quiet, so I opened my eyes in a dimly lit hotel room.
Everything had vanished from a minute ago now I was the plain room I booked for vacation.
So it was a dream, a very Strange world of its own, I guess.

“Reading in a Spot”
By: Ambree Davis

To read words in a book
Is as to play a reed with dancing music
                                                    But to feed your imagination
Is to jump from your feet through the air
To never meet another soul there
Is like a piece of meat which
                                             Is quite a neat treat
Though nothing can beat the tree which under you stand
In a seat meant for kings
Have not a spat with the branches
Instead lay in the spot with the single patch of moss.

“Troy the Boy”
By: Ty Cranford

Roberto was playing in the woods one day
When he heard someone yell, “Hey.”
He looked left then right then up then down
and there was the boy on the ground.

It was a young lad
who was wearing plaid.
The boy looked up
and said, “Sup.”

Then the boy stood
as tall as he could.
He looked at the tree’s
and the bumblebees.

He then ran
as fast as a little boy can.
Roberto chased him
But got hit by a limb.

“Bye,” said the boy,
“and my name is Troy.”
Troy then sped away
and has not been seen to this day.

“My Diabetes”
By: Maisilyn Corbin

I can’t help why I have it.
No, you can’t catch it from it.
No, I didn’t get it from eating too much candy
nor was I lazy as a child.

You don’t have to ask if I can eat that.
I can eat all the same foods you love,
but I just have to “pay for it”
with some insulin.

When I am “low,”
I might be really talkative
and get distracted easily.

When I am “high,”
I might be really quiet
and snap at people easy.

So, yes, I do have diabetes.
But no, I am not ashamed of it.
Sure I am a little different,
but you don’t have to treat me different,
as I am just like you and everyone else.

“Out for the Rest of the Season”
By: Shykemmia Chambers

Year after year after year
He played the sport that he loved.
His father coached him all the way through his
Youth years of football.

He dreamed of playing the sport on a college level, or
Even in the professional league one day,
But like every athlete he had some complications throughout his career.
Going through a broken arm in the fourth grade,

To having hip problems in middle school.
He eventually thought that he was done with bothersome limbs.
Unfortunately that was not the case.
The season was going great in the tenth grade,

But sadly halfway through at practice one day…
Something else went wrong.
He had broken his hip during a play,
And he was out for the rest of the season.

“Just Four Sounds”
By: Juliet Cairney

One string.
Thin, bright, sweet
The sound of water, impossibly clear
The sun rising over the mountains, warming the crisp, cold sky
An E.

Another string.
The sound of the sun setting in the west
Spilling gold across the sky
An A.

A third string.
A little lower
The sound of cool water in the shade of the trees
A D.

The final string.
Deep, rich, mellow
Smooth chocolate flowing in the warm evening
A G.

E, A, D, G
The violin sings
The entire world in just four sounds.

“Season Change”
By: Breeann Bohannon

Summer days are the best days
The sun shining bright with light
Green grass in all which ways
Warm summer heat all through the day and night

Those cold days are long gone away
Blue skies forever
Beach sand is on a coastal way
It will always be there whenever

But summer can’t last that long
The cold breeze reminds with a chill
The cold will be long don’t get me wrong
The winds will squeal and you will feel

Cool weeks are here to come and stay
Many love the cold
Many wish it would go away
But the cold is already getting old

Then you will wait a whole year
For summer and then you see it the first leaf fall
Your eyes fill with tears
But wait it will be back soon so don’t bawl

“Growing up”
By: Abbi Belflower

“What do you want to be when you get old?
It is time to figure out.” We were told.
Growing up, and getting our education,
Not knowing what we wanted could cause much frustration.

All I know,
About where I want to go,
Is that I want to change someone.
It does not have to be a crowd or a slew, maybe just a one.
I could be up in the north or down in the south,
As long as someone is hearing what is coming from my mouth.

Certainty of what I want to do,
Is not as clear as the sky is blue.
But one thing I know for sure is true,
I want to leave a legacy from me to you.

“Art”
By: Lainie Partain

There was a girl who loved to draw,
she sketched everything she saw.
Art was her love, her passion, her pride,
her talent she did not hide.

Art was her passion that would never fade,
she drew using textures, color and shade.
By drawing from her heart,
she creates beautiful works of art.

There came some times when things got rough,
and life became stressful and tough.
Although the days were hard and long,
through her art, she managed to stay strong.

“CLOUT”
By: Chase Barton

no feeling
no love, no hate
almost numb
nothing can hurt you
you are simply unphased by all
it is much like a drug
but does you no harm
in this state
you are mindless
yet mindful of everything
full of all knowledge
living in the future
seeing the past
untouchable
all powerful
CLOUT

“Acquainted”
By: Olivia Williams

A relationship waiting to become so much more,
Closer and closer two become, never wanting to
Quit being with the other.
Using every second the two have together to learn
About each other.
In a acquainted relationship,
Nothing is left unknown.
The deepest of secrets poured out.
Even before knowing each other for long, an acquaintance is a
Devoted relationship that will grow very strong.

“Work Hard”
By: Will Smith

Been up since break of dawn,
Seen the dew roll in,
Time to get that engine started,
No time to play again.

Worked all day,
Now the time had come,
But the job isn’t done,
Gotta keep on trucking that is a bum.

The sun is setting,
It is time to go,
I am getting hungry,
But never do I get tired of that old work flow.

“Time or Death?”
By: Tyler Smith

As Time marches on
And death begins to knock.
Just what would you do for more time?
How far would you go?
What would you sell? Your Soul?
Even your flesh and blood?
Would you steal? If so,what?
How much?
Or could you lie down
And be happy and content with what you have done?
Or would you do all you could to keep time from marching on?

“The Nature of Souls”
By: Tucker Mullis

A human made of a body, mind, and soul,
but what does a soul hold?
A soul is your spirit good or bad,
so the question is what is in your heart

It is your faith you hold straight and true,
and whatever else guides you
be it Courageous as a lion or wise as an owl.
Your soul is true to you,
so you see it can be much darker to

Perhaps you are not a good person,
nevertheless a soul must hold true.
Maybe your destructive as a dragon, dangerous as a bear.
Do these mean-spirited things sound like you.

A soul can be dark or light.
If it is dark you must steer your heart right.
This may end in a struggle or even a fight,
but it is the only way to make your life bright

“Love”
By: Chloe Mullis

When the butterflies in your stomach start to fly,
And the sound of their name makes you smile,
When the time is so short, it flies by,
You know that they have your heart and will keep it a while.

When the tears flow down because she has had a bad dream,
She calls for mama to comfort her; to stop the tears.
While holding her you know that things are not as bad as they seem.
You know you will be the one to love her all her years.

When it has been fifty years, you have loved him that long,
And you still hold his hand, kiss him goodnight.
You still dance in the kitchen to an old sweet song.
You know that with him, everything will be alright.

Jesus was perfect and pure, but took our sorrow.
We needed redemption, drowning in sin.
He was crucified, suffering so we would have no worry for tomorrow.
He is greater than all, providing strength from within.

This is all that love can be,
A mother’s, a lover’s, and a Savior’s too.
It’s your heart, you have the key.
Through everything in life, know the importance of each “I love you.”

“Mall Cop”
By: Anthony Rylan McUmber

There once was a boy with the name of Rob.
He was a mall cop.
He really, really enjoyed his job,
but he also loved to shop.

When this mall cop went around and shopped,
he would never quit.
He spent, and spent, and spent, and spent,
and for his money that was it.

He got paid one day a week,
and shopped every day.
Money comes and goes for most,
but for him it would not stay.

“Accelerate”
By: Dawson Martin
A
Car full of people accelerated down the
Coast. Weaving in and out of
Every
Lane.
Everyone was trying to move, but they
Ran into the back of another car.
All because of a
Text message that could not wait, resulting in all of their lives
Ending.

“The Traveler”
By: JT Kitchens

The traveler travels;
yes he does and yes he should.
Why wouldn’t he travel as much as he could?
For this is his purpose.

The traveler travels
over the mountains and through the valleys,
and wherever he needs to go.
This is the only life that the traveler has ever needed to know.

We as people are all travelers; only traveling through life.
We should live yes we should.
Why wouldn’t we live as much as we could?
For this is our purpose.

We should live our life
On the mountains and through the valleys,
and wherever our life will go.
Never give up; this is all you as a person has ever needed to know.
